The Manchester Law School is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the UK and has considerable strengths in all of the major areas of teaching and research including common law and public law, jurisprudence, EU law, international economic law, commercial law, intellectual property law and law and economics. The interdisciplinary strengths of the Law School are enhanced by the presence within it of the Centre for Social Ethics and Policy (CSEP), which conducts cutting edge medical ethical research, and the Centre for Criminology and Socio-Legal Studies, with teaching and research offered by recognised experts in these fields.
Law at Manchester has a reputation for consistent excellence in research. Our students have access to one of the best Law libraries in the country, a wide variety of web-based resources and the School's active seminar programmes. All research students are required to undergo formal training in research methods, which is provided by the School and by The Faculty of Humanities.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Take testAcademic Requirement - Normally a good Second Class Honours degree, or the overseas equivalent, in the relevant discipline is required. Students eligible to transfer to the PhD at the end of the MPhil year are normally required to hold a postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline, at Merit or the overseas equivalent.

Langauage Requirement - Students whose first language is not English are required to hold IELTS 7.0, with a minimum writing score of 7, or TOEFL 625 paper based with a score of 5 in the test for written English, or TOEFL 106 internet-based, or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English Grade C. The certification must have been awarded within two years prior to entry.
It may be recommended that students attend pre-sessional English Language courses at the University.
