Supervision is normally available in the following areas:
Biological mechanisms of ageing: intrinsic cellular and molecular mechanisms and biomarkers of the ageing process.
Clinical studies of age-related diseases: including experimental medicine and translation of basic science for patient benefits.
Ageing health and society: the social dimensions of population ageing and health care policy and provision.
Technology for an ageing population: research and development of innovative assistive technologies to support independence and quality of life.
Nutrition and oral health: the role of nutritional factors in healthy ageing and the impacts of oral health.
Ethics, philosophy and engagement: research on issues related to the ethics and principles underlying attempts to improve the quality of later life and involvement with older people and their representative organisations.

Postgraduate training involves two supervisors providing a breadth of expertise. In addition there are weekly seminars, journal clubs and research group discussions within the Institute. Our Medical Sciences Graduate School also has a thriving postgraduate research culture, with additional support for international students. We have an excellent record for timely PhD submission, provide training in professional/key skills and research techniques, and support personal development.
