Addressing the impact of pollution is fundamental to the environmental sciences. The MSc Environmental Pollution and Protection degree provides you with the very latest science intopollution issues of the major environmental compartments; introducingstate-of-the-art monitoring and pollution mitigation techniques combined with risk assessment procedures and up-to-date policies regarding pollution abatement. The course providesyou with hands-on experience in cuttingedge pollution measurement techniques andallows you to explore theeffects of pollutants on both biota andhumans,with the necessary understanding of how pollution targetsand environmental standards are set for air, water and soil. The degree takes advantage of the large numbers of organisations associated with theLancaster Environment Centre, providing you with the possibility of conducting your dissertation project ina work-placed environment.

On graduating, you will have an excellent knowledge of a wide range of topics concerned with pollution and protection; be aware of legislation pertaining to protection of our environment; be well versed in risk assessment process, and be able to scientifically discuss issues of pollution and methods of environmental protection. You will also have generic skills in computing and data analysis. This level of training will allow graduates to confidently progress into a research career through a PfD. As the MsC programme offers a good scientific grounding, it also supports those wishing to develop a career in consultancy and regulation of environmental pollution.
