Contents
Our programmes include intensive subject-specific supervision, training in research methodologies and core skills, and opportunities to participate in research seminars and an annual postgraduate conference.
In addition, our Humanities and Social Sciences Graduate School organises a comprehensive training programme for postgraduate students that covers research techniques, professional/key skills and provides support for personal development.
IELTS
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Normally an upper-second-class (2.1) Honours degree, or an international equivalent. Most, but not all, of our applicants hold law degrees, but we also admit many non-law degree holders if their background enables them to benefit from our programmes. Typical backgrounds have included finance, business, politics, accountancy and engineering. Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 7.0, TOEFL 100 (Internet-based) or 600 (paper-based), or equivalent. In some instances it may be possible to offer a place to an applicant with an IELTS score below 7.0 (but above 6.5), or equivalent, subject to satisfactory completion of one or more of the English language courses available at INTO Newcastle University.
