A coherent set of modules chosen from the postgraduate programmes of the Faculty of Engineering can be negotiated with the Programme Director to meet individual needs and educational objectives.
This part-time programme has been designed to provide an exceptionally wide and flexible choice of study, particularly for continuing professional development purposes.
* 60+ modules to choose from, allowing you to tailor the course to your needs.
* Opportunities to broaden your interdisciplinary engineering skills or specialise in specific areas.
* Taught in 1-week and 2-week blocks to allow you to manage your study around work commitments and focus your mind on developing skills quickly and effectively.
* Some modules are also available in Distance Learning formats to add further flexibility to your study.
* You may start the course at any time during the year.
* Study between 6 and 12 taught modules plus a project module to achieve an MSc (you may complete fewer modules to gain a Certificate or Diploma).
* Single modules can be taken for your Continuing Professional Development.
The programme consists of taught modules and a project module and can be completed in as little as 2 years or as long as 8 years. For the MSc, depending on your choices, you will study between 6 and 9 taught modules plus a project module. Typically students will take three to four years to complete an MSc by part-time study. Fewer modules are needed for the Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate. Most modules have either a 10 or 15 credit weighting, where 10 credits equates roughly to a total of 100 hours of study. The MSc project module is 90 credits and can be undertaken as a work-based project.
Most of the modules taught on the Engineering Faculty's programmes are available for study on this Faculty-wide programme. Modules are in the following areas:
* Engineering Business Management
* Digital Communication Systems
* Manufacturing Engineering
* Mechanical Engineering and Design
* Construction and Project Management
* Chemical Engineering
Support for Part-Time Students
The Engineering Faculty at Loughborough University has considerable experience of working with industry to provide postgraduate engineering education, both through open registration programmes and bespoke courses. The Faculty has an extensive list of corporate clients, and its experience ranges from providing individual short courses tailored to meet the needs of specific engineering companies to complete postgraduate programmes for larger organisations. Postgraduate teaching takes place alongside large research activity (currently the research income for the Faculty is over £15m per year).
The University's Library offers a modern service geared to meeting the needs of part-time students who are based off-campus.
On-campus accommodation for part-time students is available, for information contact Student Accommodation Services (Accommodation for a range of budgets is also available in recommended local hotels. Loughborough is easily accessible either by train or motorway.
