The Master's Programme in Biomedicine gives students an in-depth knowledge of a broad and expanding biomedical field and specialises in creating new, advanced skills in improving human health.
The programme provides a solid platform for independent research and the application of new knowledge in the molecular medicine field in order to help students understand disease mechanisms, particularly for the most common widespread diseases, and focuses on development of future methods for diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.
Karolinska Institutet (KI) is one of the world's leading universities in the biomedical field. The Master's Programme in Biomedicine is research-oriented and held in close association with eminent research environments. The programme focuses on basic biological knowledge and how it is used to propel medical developments forward. The first part offers a general, advanced biomedical base. Students may then take a personal line of enquiry to probe more deeply into one of KI's programme areas for research, by taking elective courses and/or running independent projects.
The programme provides a solid foundation for graduates wishing to continue on to a PhD. It also provides the possibility for a career in the field of academic research or in the pharmaceutical industry, in Sweden or elsewhere.
