Throughout this programme you will have access to an exceptional range of archaeological collections from across the Roman Empire, during practical teaching. You will also have access to extensive archives covering the Roman frontiers of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
You take compulsory modules (60 credits), optional modules (60 credits) and undertake a dissertation (60 credits). Compulsory modules typically include: the graduate seminar in Roman archaeology; and armies and frontiers of the Roman Empire (with seminars on Hadrian's Wall and in Rome); research skills in archaeology; and themes, theories and methods in archaeology.
The remaining taught part of the programme enables you to choose from a wide range of optional modules that may include: Roman inscriptions in context; Greek pottery; artefact analysis; Geographical Information Systems (GIS); and heritage management. Modules in Greek, Latin and modern languages are also offered. All students complete a dissertation in Roman Frontier Studies.
