You take compulsory modules (100 credits) which typically include: the nature of explanation and enquiry; introduction to quantitative methods; qualitative methodology in the arts, humanities and social sciences; introduction to information skills; thinking about research; dissertation preparation; health and health care policy; health and society. Optional modules (20 credits) are also selected from topics such as: applied epidemiology; health care quality; health economics; public health interventions; public social divisions and inequalities; and comparative perspectives in social and environmental change.
The MSc also involves a dissertation (60 credits) in a social policy or health sciences topic, which could be desk-based primary or secondary analysis, or a study involving fieldwork. The Diploma is available for those who do not undertake the dissertation.

Take testAn upper-second-class (2.1) Honours degree or higher, preferably in the social or health sciences, which can include the following (or related) discipline areas: sociology; social policy; criminology; organisational studies; cultural studies; media studies; film studies; human geography; politics; gender studies; health studies; epidemiology and health sciences. Applications from other backgrounds are welcome, but in such circumstances you are encouraged to discuss your application with the School in the first instance.
Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 7.5, TOEFL 107 (Internet-based) or 625 (paper-based), or equivalent, with a writing score of no less than IELTS 7.0 or equivalent.
