This programme provides professional training in polymer technology for graduates in science, engineering and technology subjects.
Lectures are supplemented by an extensive variety of laboratory exercises, from chemical and physical characterisation, to compounding and processing technology experiments on pilot-scale laboratory equipment.
The course has been designed to meet the requirements of industry and is accredited by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3), allowing progression towards professional chartered status.
The programme comprises a mix of semester long and one week modules for full time students and part time students study a mix of one week and distance learning modules. MSc students undertake a major project many of which are sponsored by our industrial partners.
Careers and Further Study
Graduates have followed a variety of careers in the generic polymer (plastics, rubber and composites) processing, design and end-user industries. They have also taken up career posts in the automotive, electrical, aerospace, packaging, power transmission and other related manufacturing sectors. Some stay on to take PhDs before going into industry, research establishments or education.
