The course aims to provide the relevant training in research methodology at Master’s level, as a suitable basis for progression to Doctoral Practice-based Research. It also provides the opportunity for students to undertake a self-contained programme of enquiry into aspects of history, theory and practice in the areas of Art, Design or Performance. The areas covered by the Masters are: fine art in the broadest sense in terms of the use of media and approach; performance as it is conceived in the contexts of both fine art and theatre; film and video; a wide range of design disciplines.

The course responds to the worldwide growth of interest in practice-based research degrees by providing an experience that allows exploration of innovative practices of research.
