Location of Loughborough University

This programme is intended to provide both basic training in preparation for higher degrees by research (MPhil/PhD) and vocational training for careers in the financial services sectors of industry and Government, particularly banking and central banking. The programme is particularly relevant for careers in international banking services.

The programme is characterised by core modules in the Financial System, International Banking and Financial Markets, Comparative Banking and Research Methods (or Mathematical and Econometric Methods). It also allows continued specialisation in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics or Finance. This enables students to develop expertise in areas of economics, banking or finance that suit them best. A very wide choice of options is available.

Choice of Semester 2 modules may be restricted by the options selected in Semester 1. The Department reserves the right to vary the list of optional modules. Option lists are published in September and January each year.

Summer Period
Students will satisfy the research requirement by examined participation in research seminars. Subject to special conditions, students may submit a dissertation instead.

Assessment
75% examination, 25% coursework for most modules.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Requirements

Good UK honours or joint honours degree programme in Banking, Finance or Economics. Some economics content in your honours degree is essential. Where the UK honours degree system is not used, a substantial relevant content is required with high grades.

Acceptable English language qualification

* GCSE English Language - Grade C or above
* IELTS band 6.5 with not less than 6.0 in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking
* TOEFL (including the Tests in Written and Spoken Practice) minimum score of 600 (paper-based test) or 100 (Internet-based test) with specific requirements for sub tests
