Location of Newcastle University

The programme comprises compulsory modules (40 credits), optional modules (80 credits) and a dissertation (60 credits). The compulsory modules are: global politics and popular culture; and theories and approaches in the study of politics. You also take one optional module (20 credits) in politics from a range of modules, including: international relations theory; war, terrorism and peace – ethical perspectives; globalisation, poverty and development; and critical geopolitics.

Your remaining modules (60 credits) in popular culture are chosen from the wide range of modules available across the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, including modules in arts, music, film, literature and media studies.

Requirements

An upper-second-class (2.1) Honours degree or above, or an international equivalent, in international studies/politics or a related discipline. Other qualifications or relevant professional experience are also considered. Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based) or 577 (paper-based) or equivalent.
