Loughborough is recognized as a world leader for research in the fields of globalization and the sociology of sport. This ground-breaking new masters programme brings together experts from these fields from the Department of Geography and the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences.
It provides students with a critical understanding of the wide-ranging debates over the nature and significance of globalization, as well as an appreciation of its ongoing impacts on sports and leisure.
It also focuses upon the development of the research skills needed to investigate the complexities of global processes and provides a thorough grounding in issues of sporting participation, exclusion and identity.
The programme will provide students with a qualification that is unique to Loughborough and which will give an obvious entry point to research, development and consultancy careers.
The programme provides transferable knowledges and skills that will be appropriate to a wide variety of careers in sports and leisure management, particularly where employers have a global or international remit.
The growing cultural, economic and political significance of sport has unquestionably led to greater demand for qualified specialists to provide both basic and applied knowledge in this area. This programme has been designed to address these requirements.

Coursework and examination, plus a dissertation of up to 20,000 words on an agreed topic.
