This programme comprises two elements and has two entry points depending on applicants´ previous qualifications:

* Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
(1 year full-time)

The first element of the programme is a full-time Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). It fulfils the `Requirements for Initial Teacher Training´ and leads to students meeting the `Professional Standards for Qualified Teacher Status´ set out by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA).

The PGCE programme contributes to one third of the full masters programme. Progression from PGCE to MSc is dependent on a specified performance threshold in core modules during the PGCE course.

* MSc Education with Qualified Teacher Status in Physical Education
(three years part-time)

This element of the Programme is for secondary school Physical Education teachers who have achieved Qualified Teacher Status, either at Loughborough University or another university, and provides them with the opportunity to gain a relevant masters degree during their early teaching career.

The aim of the programme is to engage specialist Physical Education teachers in critical reflective practice to further develop their teaching and enhance pupil learning. This element of the programme is part-time and comprises a mixture of delivered modules at the University and e-learning modules which are completed from the student´s place of work, usually a secondary school.

Careers and Further Study

The QTS qualification permits individuals to teach in a secondary school anywhere in the UK and in many other parts of the world. Loughborough graduates are very much in demand and many have gone on to rewarding careers at the highest levels of leadership in the teaching profession, such as senior management posts in schools, lecturers in further and higher education, and teacher educators.
