One of the challenges faced by aeronautical companies during the development and production of modern aircraft is the on-board integration of multiple systems.
The field of Aircraft Systems Integration is highly multidisciplinary and requires a deep knowledge of:
* Technologies * Electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, electronic, optical, software,...
* Functions * Flight dynamics and control, navigation, communications, surveillance,...
* Requirements * Legal framework, civil and military standards, safety and flight regulations, ...
* Project and management tools * Planning, statement of work, work breakdown structure, ...
* Testing procedures: * Flight tests, verification, validation, certification, ...
...as well as the mutual interactions among all of them.
The Master of Engineering in Aircraft Systems Integration (MEng ASI), sponsored by EADS-Spain, has been specifically designed for graduated engineering students, and working professionals, who want to develop and lead projects of Systems Integration, and to apply their skills to the future challenges of the aeronautical sector.
Who this program is designed for?
Although the Aircraft Systems Integration has strong links with several branches of engineering (e.g., aeronautical, mechanical, electrical & electronic, computer science, systems engineering, etc.), it is not completely covered by neither of them.
Accordingly, this Master degree turns out to be of interest for a wide range of profiles, such as:
* Professionals of the aviation industry, with experience in aircraft systems.
* Graduates in aeronautical engineering.
* Graduates in related technical fields (mechanical, industrial, electrical, computer & telecommunication engineering).
The 20 intern students from MASI'09 have turned its internship into a full-time job in aeronautical companies (EADS, Aeroconseil,...)
The MEng ASI program is designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed to take a leading role in the fast-growing systems integration field. The MEng ASI curriculum, of one year of duration (60 ECTS), is comprised of five components:
M1. Introductory Level
Introductory level courses provide the technical knowledge necessary to understand how the different aircraft´s systems work. Up to 3 ECTS at this level may be waived depending on the student´s entry profile.
The courses cover the following subject areas:
* Introduction to Aircraft Systems Integration
* Fundamentals of Aeronautical Engineering
* Introduction to Flight Control
* Electronics and Instrumentation
* Aeronautical Communications
M2. Core Level
Core level courses provide the common framework required for the systems integration.
The Core Level includes topics such as Aeronautic Legislation, Safety Analysis and the common engineering procedures from the design to the certification of aircraft Systems.
M3. Advanced Level
The Advanced Level courses allow students to specialize and to gain additional competency in specific aircraft´s systems. These specialized contents are taught always keeping in mind the aircraft´s overall "picture".
This level includes courses on general aircraft systems (air conditioning, electricity supply and auxiliary power, fire protection, hydraulics, ice and rain protection, landing gear, etc) and avionics (navigation, mission systems, surveillance, communication, etc.).
M4. Industrial Placement
The Industrial Placement will take place at the facilities of EADS-Spain. During this period, the students will undertake real design exercises, under the supervision of an industrial mentor, and supporting seminars.
M5. Final Project
The final project will cover a real and complete airframe system integration problem. Usually, the project´s topics will be selected either from a portfolio of subjects proposed by staff or as an extension of the work developed during the industrial placement. In the final project defense, the students will present their results to a committee.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

The Masters Degree is aimed at recent graduates (*) in any branch of engineering (higher or technical) which is compatible with the syllabus, namely
* Aeronautical Engineering
* Industrial Engineering
* Telecommunications Engineering
* Computer Engineering
Graduates holding other degrees may also be admitted following authorization by the Academic Board.
(*) Candidates who have still to present their final projects for their first degree may be admitted as long as the defence of the final projects takes place before the start of the course.
Admissions Procedure
The student selection process will be divided into two phases.
1. In the first phase applications will be short-listed, according to the following criteria:
* Application form
* Suitability of degree
* Academic record
* Knowledge of foreign languages, international experience and/or participation in exchange programs
* Other key merits
Deadline: October 29, 2010
2. In this phase, short-listed applicants should:
* Present a letter of recommendation (preferably of the aeronautical sector) which supports their Masters applications
* Pass tests evaluating social skills, ability to work in groups, motivation.
* Attend an interview with the Academic Board.
* Candidates will be informed by e-mail whether their application has been successful.
