VISIONS of what forestry should contribute to society have diversified greatly over the years and views on what is sustainable forest management are becoming increasingly complex. The role of forests and nature in safeguarding our living environment has grown in importance, resulting in a strong focus on how we can use and should manage this resource. At the same time demand for forest products such as timber, energy and recreation is also increasing.
The programme is aimed at students with a BSc degree in forestry or related sciences who are interested in international aspects of forest and nature resource management. A variety of scholarships are available for potential students.
Mundus (MSc EF) is a 2-year double-degree programme co-organised by seven European universities:
In addition, two international partners collaborate in organising tuition:
After completing the MSc EF programme, the students obtain a double degree i.e. two national MSc degrees of which one is always issued by the University of Eastern Finland and the other by the partner university where the student has taken majority of his/her second year studies. In addition to degree certificates, the graduates receve Diploma Supplements that describe the contents of the programme.
It is a 2-year programme run jointly by the universities of Joensuu (Finland), Freiburg (Germany), Wageningen (Netherlands), Lleida (Spain), BOKU in Vienna, AgroParisTech-ENGREF (France) and SLU. The programme is in English and attracts students from all over the world. The first year (60 HEC) consists of a common component for all students on the programme. It comprises courses on development and various aspects of forestry in Europe. You will complete a three-month internship at a forest organisation and a European field course. In the second year, you can specialise by choosing courses (30 HEC) and your MSc thesis (30 HEC). The programme will take you to at least two of the participating universities and you will receive a double degree based on your individual study plan for the second year. Students develop their study plan in consultation with their supervisors to ensure they meet the national requirements for the degrees offered by the participating universities.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
