The Human Nutrition programme gives you a solid understanding of the principles, methods and tools of nutritional science.
You will learn about the conversion of energy and nutrients in the human body and about the importance of nutrition in the various stages of life.
The programme gives you insight into the effects of nutrition on health and disease, and you will obtain a solid understanding of the social and cultural issues associated with foods and nutrition.
Our society is highly focused on food and health. This is especially because obesity has become a major problem for many people and, consequently, for society in the form of lifestyle diseases that are a burden on the healthcare system.
The Human Nutrition programme will give you comprehensive knowledge of, among other things, the importance of foods for our health and the social and cultural significance of our foods.
With an MSc degree in Human Nutrition, you can work in both the private and public sectors.
Many candidates develop a talent for project management that can be used within many fields. The following are some examples of what you can do:
The programme consists of both compulsory and elective courses. Instruction is in the form of lectures, seminars, practical and theoretical exercises, and there will be a good deal of project work.

A block is 9 weeks long and equals 15 ECTS.
Compulsory courses
The compulsory courses form the foundation of the programme and take place in the first five blocks. In the compulsory courses you will learn about food´s significance for people and how to create health-promoting activities in the area of nutrition.
The courses also cover the content of nutrients in foods and their metabolisation as well as their importance for overall health.
You can focus on teenage obesity, the effect of fish oil on the risk of sudden death from heart failure, the potential of GMO foods to solve global problems with undernourishment, etc.
Thematic course
The thematic course on human nutrition takes up all of block 3 and will train you to define and analyse a nutrition-related topic within a fairly wide subject area.
The work is project-based and problem-oriented and takes place in groups supplemented by lectures and seminars.
Electives
Electives represent approx. 1/8 of the programme. You may choose among courses on nutrition at the Faculty of Life Sciences, e.g. International Nutrition and Health.
You may also choose courses on a completely different topic and at other universities in Denmark and abroad.
Thesis
The programme concludes with the writing of a thesis, which will involve working independently on an academic topic of your own choice.
You may either do experimental work or analytical work based on collected data.
What competencies will I acquire?With an MSc in Human Nutrition, you will be able to implement and manage prevention initiatives, as you will learn through your studies to define target groups, set intervention levels, select activities and plan evaluations.
You will also be able to monitor and consider the many and sometimes contradictory aspects that influence people´s relationship to food today.
You will learn to identify different Danish players within the health sector and their areas of responsibility. And you will be qualified to understand the interests and opportunities of the international, national and local players in relation to the nutrition-related treatment of disease.
There is also a well-established collaboration between the students and the business community that ensures excellent prospects for internships or project collaborations, providing you with a unique experience and a good network.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
