Retailing is now a complex global business and tomorrrow`s leaders need to be totally informed about the business, the markets and the technology. This internationally-focussed Masters programme is aimed at business or economics graduates who envisage a career at a senior level in this exciting international business. Taken full-time over one calendar year the Masters in Business Studies in Retail Management involves lectures, presentations and seminars on a range of management issues focussed on retailing and on the industry`s leading-edge technology for category management, electronic data interchange and store location decisions.
Award
Graduates of the course are eligible for the award of Master of Business Studies in Retail Management of the Dublin Institute of Technology.
Career Opportunities
This masters programme is designed for Business Graduates who envisage a career at senior management level in large scale retail companies or in organisations supplying such companies.
The programme engages the student in a critical examination of a range of retail issues and specialisms in addition to a focussed review of several critical boardroom-level topics involving broad strategic questions of business policy and direction.
For 2007-2008, the MBS is offered in Full-time mode as well as the existing Part-time version over two years. In both modes, students take thirteen modules some of which are electives. As well as lectures there is a special Themed Seminar Week each January featuring guest speakers from leading companies and universities around the world. Each May there is an International Retail Study Tour Week where students visit leading retail sites abroad and visit companies and universities there to look at emerging trends and see local solutions to universal problems. These full-weeks are mandatory and form part of the assessed learning content of the programme.

Register Now!In general, applicants are required to have an honours degree (minimum 2.2) in a business or cognate area or an equivalent professional business qualification, by examination, such as in Accountancy, Marketing, etc. Entrants are assumed to have an honours degree level of familiarity with business disciplines such as economics, accounting, finance, management, marketing and law so it is not really suitable for graduates who have taken primary degrees in arts or science or engineering.The programme is conducted in English so a strong working knowldedge of English(Minimum 6.5 IELTS or equivalent) is required.
