This is a new programme, launched in 2007, in Electronics and Communications engineering. The aim of the programme is to provide industry with engineers with a high level of in-depth knowledge and expertise in a selected range of advanced topics in Electronic and Communications Engineering.
This programme is delivered through lectures, practical work, assignments and tutorials. Each student must complete six modules (below) and also complete an independent learning portfolio, that includes a project / dissertation and selected research essays. The programme will run in both full-time and part-time modes. When taken full-time (DT086) the programme can be completed in one year.
Entry to both the full-time and part-time versions of the programme is possible in September and january each year.
Graduates are eligible for the award of Master of Science in Electronic and Communications Engineering, of the Dublin Institute of Technology..
This course will provide graduates with the knowledge and skills set required to work at a high level within the research, design and development divisions of the telecommunications sector and related areas in the electronics industry.
Six taught modules must be completed from the following list:
* VLSI Design (10 Credits)
* Optical Communications Systems, (10 Credits)
* Innovation and Technology, (10 Credits)
* Wireless Systems (10 credits)
* Simulation for Telecommunications (10 credits)
* Advanced Digital Signal Processing (10 Credits)
* Communications Network Engineering (10 credits)
* Microwave and RF Engineering (10 credits)
* Microelectronic Materials and Devices (10 credits)
For completion of the MSc, students will be required to complete an independent learning portfolio, which includes a research dissertation (30 credits) in addition to the six taught modules.
Assessment
There are both formal examinations and written assignments in each taught module. The dissertation will be assessed on the research work and the presentation of the thesis.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

A minimum Second Class Honours degree (2.2 grade or higher) in Electronic, Computer or Communications Engineering or a related discipline. Applications from candidates with at least a second class honours degree in Applied Physics or other numerate degree, along with candidates with other 2.2 honours degress and suitable strong industrial experience may also be considered strictly on a case-by-case basis.

Depending on the programme of study applications will be assessed based on your academic grades and may also take into account your work/life experience. Applicants may also be required to attend for interview for specific programmes.
