Plasma physics is a relatively young branch of physics, with great developments over the last 30 years. This development has led to many modern technologies used in industry. The aim of this branch is to inform the students about the theoretical and experimental fundamentals of plasma physics. An integral part of this is modern vacuum physics as well as circuit and microwave electronics. The graduate of this branch will be prepared for the work in academic research and also for the work in research and development of technological processes.
Upon graduation, the students are able to design and perform experiments in plasma physics and plasma chemistry; they can analyze experimental results and adjust the experimental set-up accordingly. They have firm knowledge of a variety of physical and diagnostics methods; they can operate the instruments and are able to evaluate and interpret the results. The graduates can identify and solve physical problems in various areas of science and production. They can safely handle the physical equipments and explain and supervise their usage among physicists and non-physicists. They are aware of environmental aspects of the research and production. They can understand and follow ethical guidelines of scientific work.

Masaryk University is a public university-type institution of higher education offering:

* advanced (“rigorozní”) state examinations for graduates of Master’s degree programmes holding the title of “magistr” (Mgr.);

An accredited degree programme provides a higher education that concludes with a state examination and the awarding of a degree and accompanying title (the most common being Bc., Mgr., Ing. and Ph.D.). The field of study is delimited by a set of courses and conditions for the creation of a study plan. Fields of study may be further divided into specializations in specific areas (usually on the basis of the student’s taking a certain block of courses).
