Modern Chemistry is unthinkable without the achievements of Theoretical and Computational Chemistry. These disciplines became a mandatory tool for the molecular sciences towards the end of the 20th century, and they will undoub - tedly mark the new era that lies ahead. From this perspective, the training and formation of new generations of compu - tational and theoretical chemists with broad knowledge is of paramount importance.
Experts from seven European universities have decided to join forces. Co-ordinated by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, the initiative for a European Master’s Course on Theoretical Chemistry and Computational Modelling (TCCM) was launched in 2005. In 2007, the programme was awarded accreditation by the European Chemistry Thematic Network Association (ECTNA). In 2009, it was selected for the Erasmus Mundus Action for joint Master’s courses, which came into effect in 2010.
In addition to sound theoretical knowledge, the programme’s graduates are prepared to apply any of the scientific codes on the market, or to develop new codes to address new requirements associated with research or productive activities. Graduates will have attained the necessary skills to pursue a scientific career by enrolling in the doctoral programme in Chemistry, Physics or Material Science. You can also develop professional activities as anexpert in molecular design in the pharmaceutical industry, petrochemical companies and new-materials industry. You will also have a suitable profile to work in any company as a computational expert.
The TCCM Master's programme is orga - nised in a two-year structure, equivalent to 120 ECTS. The first year of the programme introduces you to concepts and methods. The core of the programme is an international intensive course, which is intended to bring all the participants to a common level of excellence.
It takes place in the summer between year 1 and year 2 and runs for four weeks. It welcomes several international experts as teachers. The second year of the programme is devoted to tutorials on the material of the intensive course and to a thesis project that is carried out in part at another university of the consortium. The intensive course is organised at the partner insti tutions on a rotating basis (2011 Valencia, 2012 Perugia, 2013 Madrid, etc.).
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Bachelor (of Science) in Chemistry, Physics or Material Science, or any equivalent level if authorized by the legislation of the corresponding European Country. Other scientific bachelors can be accepted, provided the student takes complementary levelling courses, under the supervision of his local Tutor.
Internationally recognised English proficiency certificate equivalent to a TOEFL score of minimum 500/213, or an IELTS score of 6.
The same criteria are applied to students coming from third countries. For students coming from third countries or having a Bachelor different from those mentioned above, the prerquisite knowledge level, as specified above, should be certified.
To guarantee homogenous evaluation of these requirements, the cases of applicants coming from Third Countries (outside EU) or from Bachelors different from the aforementioned ones will be handled by the International Committee.
The selection of the students applying for the Master is made (this applies both to European and third-country students) by the International Committee of the Master.
