Utilising a range of teaching approaches and sharing your expertise with your fellow trainees, you will become skilled at managing the teaching and learning process both in the classroom and in the field.
You will be trained as a science teacher who specialises in Biology, so you will also take complementary courses in Physics and Chemistry. These courses are designed to develop both subject knowledge and teaching techniques, and are taught by specialist tutors.
Course Structure
Our training programme consists of four modules (totalling 60 credits) which are all at Masters level, and one practical teaching module.
Your training will prepare you to plan, teach and assess the curriculum for your chosen subject area across the full 11-18 Secondary age range and you will have opportunities to work with teachers and children in both Secondary Key Stages and post-16.
Teaching and assessment
ICT is integrated across the sessions and you will learn through a range of methods that you will eventually put into practice as a teacher, including discussion, formal teaching and demonstration, laboratory and field work.
Your progress will be continuously assessed through course work assignments, school-based tasks and practical teaching assessments.
The quality of your work in school will be assessed through a negotiated process based upon self-evaluation, observation of your teaching and professional dialogue between yourself, your school-based tutors and university tutors.
Placements
During the course you will undertake placements within two different partnership schools.
We have partnership schools in all the Local Authorities in the region and our colleagues in school work very closely with us to foster all areas of our trainees' professional development.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
