Course Structure

Our training programme consists of four modules (totalling 60 credits) which are all at Masters level, and one practical teaching module.

Experiences in the University and in partnership schools are designed to prepare you to teach the full 11-18 Secondary age range and you will have opportunities to work with teachers and children in both Secondary Key Stages and post-16. Your training will prepare you to plan, teach and assess the curriculum for your chosen subject area.

The Education & Professional Studies module is designed to further your understanding of the development and needs of secondary school children and the ways in which their learning may be organised, managed and assessed through a variety of teaching strategies. These sessions support and complement the work done in taught subject modules and are closely linked to your school-based work.

Placements

During the course you will undertake placements within two different partnership schools. We have partnership schools in all the Local Authorities in the region and our colleagues in school work very closely with us to foster all areas of our trainees' professional development.

Teaching and assessment

You will be assessed through self-evaluation, observation of your teaching, and a negotiated process based upon an ongoing professional dialogue between your school-based tutors and university tutors.

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
