An Advanced Master in One Year
The Economic Departments at the University of Namur (FUNDP) and at the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL) organize jointly a one-year post graduate program in International and Development Economics. The master program has successfully been in existence for more than 12 years. Professorship includes well known academics with an extended field experience in developing countries.
Program graduates will obtain an Advanced Master Degree in International and Development Economics.The program is open to graduates (with 5 years of university education or 4 years together with 2 years of professional experience) with a strong background in economics.
Objectives
The objective of the program is to train students in international and development economics and help them to become qualified actors in the field of economic development in the context of an integrated world economy.
The courses taught are structured around two main themes : macroeconomic policies and economic development including its institutional aspects. Graduates are taught to apply sound economic analysis that is well adapted to the social and political context of a specific developing country. At the end of their one-year stay, graduates will be able to analyze, design and implement realistic and innovative solutions in a developing country setting.
Language
The program is fully taught in English.
Curriculum and Academic Year
Classes start mid-September.
Courses are structured around two themes:
- Macroeconomic and trade policies
- Economic development, with emphasis on poverty reduction and institutional issues
Each theme of study consists of four classes and one seminar.
Exams are organized in January after the first semester and in June after the second semester with a retake in August or September.
Each student has to complete a personal study project that enables him to bring a personal contribution to an economic topic of special interest to him.
Campus
The program is organized by the Economics School of Louvain which is comprised of the economic departments of the FUNDP and of the UCL. Classes take place predominantly on the FUNDP campus in Namur but, once a week, classes are organized on
the UCL campus in Louvain-la-Neuve. The program secretariat is located in Namur.

Only applicants with a strong background in economics will be considered.
The number of students will be limited in order to ensure small classes and close interaction among the students and staff.
