The MIMA Master program in Financial Engineering prepares you for a challenging and successful career in the international world of finance. You will learn to see finance from advanced quanti-tative perspectives, including the management of financial portfolios and risk analysis in financial markets.
EDUCATION
Focusing on quantitative computer-based methods of financial analysis, the programme provides a broad basis in Mathe-matics and Economics.
The programme is oriented towards financial real-life problems and the textbooks have been chosen to support this approach.
Advanced financial software is systematically used in the teaching.
The programme is a natural continuation of the bachelor programme in Analytical Finance offered by Mälardalen University.
RESEARCH
Research studies are carried out in Financial Mathematics, Financial Engineering, Financial and Risk Management Software as well as in some related research areas such as Actuarial Mathematics, Applied Statistics and Stochastic Processes, and Simulation. The best students are involved in research activities and the development of experimental financial software.
FUTURE AND CAREER
As a graduate of the Financial Engineering program you will have very competitive advanced qualifications for obtaining a senior position in a bank, stock exchange, investment company, insurance or financial software company, government or financial institution or software company. DEGREE
Master of Science (two year) in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics with
Specialization in Financial Engineering.
The Master’s Programme in Financial Engineering is a two-year natural science programme in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics, which deepens the student’s knowledge of mathematics. The programme consists of a compulsory component of 75 credits in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics. Included in this is a degree project. The remaining 45 credits may be chosen freely; within the programme further courses are offered in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics.
The compulsory courses account for the mathematical core of the programme. The
concluding compulsory course consists of a degree project comprising 30 credits in
Mathematics.
RESEARCH

A completed Bachelor's degree from an institution of higher education of three years or more, equivalent to at least 180 credits (180 ECTS) of which at least 60 credits are in mathematics including probability theory and statistics. English course B is required for Swedish students. Foreign students are required to submit a TOEFL test result, minimum score 575 with a TWE score of at least 4.5 (PBT) or 90 with a TWE score of at least 20 (iBT) or an IELTS test result with an overall band score of minimum 6.5 and no band score below 5.5 or equivalent.
