This track addresses those communication processes intended to achieve specific persuasive goals, for instance, marketing communication, health education, and public information campaigns.
Courses in this track deal with understanding persuasion with emphasis on message-related factors (specialisation seminar 1 "Message strategies") and medium-related factors in persuasive communication (specialisation seminar 2 "Media strategies"). In both seminars, persuasion theory will be discussed in detail and applied to different types of campaigns. In addition, Persuasive Communication offers various electives dealing with important themes in society and academics. Studying Persuasive Communication at the University of Amsterdam Amsterdam is a fascinating, media-saturated environment. Studying in a major European centre for media research and development provides our students with a network of contacts that helps them find work after graduation, both in the Netherlands and elsewhere. Many of the programme's lecturers are researchers at the Amsterdam School of Communications Research (ASCOR) at the UvA's Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. ASCOR is the largest Communication Science research institute in the Netherlands, and is among the largest worldwide.
The curriculum of the track Persuasive Communication of the Master in Communication Science comprises two required core courses:
Furthermore, students will complete a method course (6 EC) during the first semester. In the second semester, students complete two elective modules of 6 EC each and a Master's thesis (18 EC).
Students must obtain a total of 60 credits to be awarded the degree. Fulfilment of all the requirements should take one year of full-time study.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
