This master’s programme provides a strong and competitive education in Communication Electronics, combining knowledge and skills in electronics with in-depth understanding of telecommunication theory and modern wireless communication systems. The programme is particularly focused on the design of radio frequency (RF) transceivers and mixed analogue/digital integrated circuits and systems-on-chip (SoC).
Modern society depends to a large extent on reliable and efficient communication. There is a nearly unlimited demand for more affordable, faster and advanced communication and information technologies, indicating that there will be large industrial opportunities in the future. Mobile phones, internet, PCs and TVs, are just a few examples of today’s electronic systems that constantly improve in functionality, performance and cost. In addition, a growing number of concepts and technologies are emerging which will significantly improve areas such as healthcare, safety and security of people, the efficiency of industry and comfort of our homes.
The Communication Electronics programme spans several disciplines, including integrated circuits and systems design, signal processing, computer engineering, and wireline or wireless communication systems. The programme is organised by the Linköping University Center for Electronics and Embedded Systems (LINCE), which includes five research divisions and over 60 active researchers. The center is internationally recognised for its state-of-the-art research laboratory and its close collaboration with major companies worldwide.
The programme starts with courses in telecommunication theory and wireless communication systems, as well as integrated circuits and radio electronics. These courses provide a strong basis for the subsequently more advanced courses such as radio frequency integrated circuits, radio transceiver design, signal processing and processor architectures, very large scale integrated (VLSI) chip design and other related subjects. Students are given excellent opportunities to improve their design skills by using the same state-of-the-art circuit and system design environment and CAD tools that are used in industry today.
The programme was created at the request of industry and is still strongly supported by Swedish electronics companies. Due to the attention given to industry needs, graduates can expect excellent career opportunities at major research and development centers in both industry and academic institutions worldwide.

A bachelor's degree awarded in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh or Nepal must in most cases be of four years or followed by a master's degree to meet the admission requirements.
Applicants who do not hold the required degree are eligible provided that they can prove that they are registered for the last semester of a programme leading to such a degree. An official document stating that they are likely to be awarded the degree before the start of the programme must be sent in with the application. The degree certificate has to be presented by 15 October.
In addition to the general requirements, the applicant must also meet the specific requirements that apply to the different programmes, see below. The specific requirements may be assessed as not fulfilled if

Applicants must have documented skills in English corresponding to the level of English in Swedish upper secondary education (English B). For applicants who have not studied in Swedish upper secondary education, skills in English are normally attested to by means of an international language test, such as:
