The Second Cycle Degree Programme in Economics aims to produce graduates equipped with in-depth knowledge of economic disciplines, quantitative instruments, management and legal disciplines, as well as abilities in applying the logic of economics to decision making.
It is divided into two curricula: “Models and Methods in Economics and Management”, fully taught in English, which is associated with the Joint Degree Programme “Models and Methods of Quantitative Economics – Erasmus Mundus (QEM)”; “Economics and Business. Institutions and Markets”, taught in Italian, which is the ideal continuation of the First Cycle Degree Programme in Economics and Business.
The first curriculum concentrates on economical, advanced quantitative, management and finance issues, while the second focuses on the study of markets, institutions and regulation methods.
The Erasmus Mundus Master course, QEM - Models and Methods of Quantitative Economics, is a two year full-time international program, taught in English, in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. It is a program approved by the EU and designed by a partnership consortium of five high-rated European Universities:
The course offers an intensive educational training in the fundamental quantitative tools, combining traditional areas of economics with modern disciplines related to Economics, such as Probability, Econometrics, Statistics, Finance, Actuarial Science, Experimental Design, Political Science, Computation and Simulation, Mathematical Modeling; as these areas are increasingly vital in both research orientation for further studies and in the job market of the governmental organizations, public and private agencies, or financial institutions. This distinctive diversity allows for a range of opportunities for specialization and topics of interest for the students, along a number of course tracks.
The course is intended to prepare students for a wide range of careers with roots in economics, including economic theory, macroeconomics and financial forecasting, financial engineering and risk management, quantitative asset management, computational economics, quantitative trading, and applied and theoretical research. See full program details.
Around 50 students are welcomed each year. Admission is made on the basis of academic excellence. It is mandatory for applicants to have a recognized Bachelor Degree or equivalent, and to be fluent in English, both written and spoken. A degree in economics is not required; however, the applicant's interest in economics is highly desirable. Additionally, mathematical aptitude and work experience is helpful in the admission process, as well as in your studies.
Applicants who do not have required mathematical prerequisites should follow special trainings or programs prior to their enrollment in the QEM Master course. These trainings are proposed by the Graduate School of Mathematics of Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne with the collaboration of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, IMW - Institute of Mathematical Economics of Universität Bielefeld, Université catholique de Louvain and Università Ca' Foscari Venezia.
It is mandatory to study at two of the five participating universities from the consortium. This mobility enables students to gather knowledge on a wide range of issues involved, and to meet and work with professionals from various backgrounds. After successfully completing the program, the student is awarded a Joint Degree from the partners of the Consortium. The Consortium provides an extensive career assistance to the students, including help with internships and job placement for graduates. We have had an excellent job placement record, since 2008.
FirstYear

Welcome Week in Paris. At the beginning of the First Year, students are welcomed in Paris (the co-ordinating institution) during a week to fill all the administrative and financial papers, particularly everything concerning their fellowships. See here.
Mobility between Paris and Bielefeld. After the Welcome Week students are then split into two groups (on a voluntary basis as much as possible). The first half goes to Bielefeld during the first semester and then returns to Paris during the second semester. The second half of students stays in Paris during the first semester and then goes to Bielefeld during the second semester. The studies in Bielefeld and Paris are organized to be almost identical during the two semesters of the first year.
60 credits are needed in the First Year. 4 credits of Foreign Language Courses:

The 4 universities are also organizing visits of museums or touristic sites of their countries to make students discover the country. This is independent from the language courses but can be prepared in them. In some universities, this program will be coupled with similar program organized for (plain) Erasmus students so that the two populations can meet.
