Upon completion of the Master of Information Management programme, participants gain:
Overview
In our framework, Information Management is conceptualised in three domains.
In these three domains, IT governance allocates decisions rights, roles and responsibilities among the different business and IT stakeholders.
Business strategies influence demand for new information systems (IS strategy). Other inputs to IS strategy are new technologies (IT trends) and the potential of IT for innovation, e.g., how organisations can use IT to enable process innovation and new business models. The strategy decisions will include decisions on systems portfolio, infrastructure, and architecture policies.
Having decided what systems to adopt, organisations must subsequently deploy them. In IT implementation, organisations make choices concerning whether to make, buy or outsource systems. Deploying new systems and changing business processes requires good project / change management and skills in organisational behaviour.
Sooner or later, the systems being implemented become part of the portfolio of existing systems and IT infrastructure upon which the organisation relies for day-to-day operations. Ensuring performance, reliability, security, and compliance are critical issues for IT operations. Finally, existing systems and infrastructure affect (i.e. enable or constrain) future IT options and therefore IS strategy. Therefore, the need for a flexible infrastructure should be taken into account also at the planning stage. This closes the loop of Information Management in the framework.
