Master´s degree program in Technology and Policy focuses on the one hand on the analysis of sources and socio-economic effects of innovations. On the other hand the Master´s program concentrates on the design and evaluation of public and private policy, of strategies and interventions that are intended to influence innovation processes and technological change.
Technological change and innovation are crucial factors for economic growth and increasing welfare. This is why it is rather important to gain a deeper understanding of and insight in these phenomena. What are the driving forces of innovation and technological change, what is their impact and how can we influence their speed and direction to best meet social wishes and needs? To answer these questions, the Master´s degree program in Technology and Policy focuses on the one hand on the analysis of sources and socio-economic effects of innovations. On the other hand the Master´s program concentrates on the design and evaluation of public and private policy, of strategies and interventions that are intended to influence innovation processes and technological change.
During the Master´s degree program you will spend one trimester/semester at a university in another country specializing in technology and innovation. The courses that you will follow during this internship study will enable you to deepen the knowledge you have already gained, or to supplement it with subjects that are not taught at the TU/e. The innovation-related subjects that you follow while studying abroad will be closely linked to your final Master´s project. The program has strong research links with prominent universities, for example in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Italy, Germany, the UK, Singapore, the USA and South Africa.
The Master's degree program Technology and Policy lasts two years. Each year consists of 60 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).
The MSc program combines inputs from three social science disciplines, namely the economics of innovation and technology, the sociology of innovation and technology and legal aspects of innovation and technology, with inputs from engineering sciences.
The two year program consists of compulsory courses, optional courses, an international trimester and the MSc project.
The compulsory courses consist of social sicence courses on innovation, engineering courses, and a multidisciplinary project. The optional courses offer specialisations: Technology and Development Studies for students interested in pursuing a career in the context of development and developing countries; intellectual property rights, with a focus on legal aspects of innovation and energy and sustainable development.
During the international trimester students study innovation related subjects at other universities. The MSc program has intensive contacts with prominent universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Italy, Singapore and South Africa. The international trimester serves to deepen the knowledge acquired in the regular courses and as a preparation for the work on the MSc thesis.
Most of the second year of the Master's program is largely taken up by your final MSc project. This will be the culmination of the education program leading to a Master of Science Degree in Innovation Sciences (MSc) and/or the degree of Ingenieur (ir.)
You can carry out you MSc assignment in:
MSc assignments can be carried out in the Netherlands or abroad. Students with a specialisation in technology and development can execute their MSc assignment in a developing country.
The MSc program in Innovation Sciences is linked to the research program of the Eindhoven Centre for Innovations Studies. ECIS is a leading European research school focusing on the study of innovation. It conducts research on the causes and consequences of innovation and technological change in organizations, networks, regions, economic sectors and national economic systems.
The MSc thesis in Innovation Scienses aims at combining and sythesising engineering and social scientific knowledge. Many of the research projects are executed in practical settings, of firms, international organizations or government departments, both in the Netherlands and abroad. Students taking the specialisation courses in technology and development can execute their MSc research project in a developing country.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country. Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test. More information
