The graduate program in Electronics Engineering and Computer Science provides M.Sc. and Ph.D. level education in four areas that will shape the future of technology and its applications. These areas are:

1.Computer Science

Computer Science and Engineering has contributed immensely and will continue to do so in shaping our lives in many areas encompassing communication, commerce, medicine, education, entertainment, and human interaction, just to name a few.

Current major topics of interest at Sabanci University include:

* Natural language processing
* Speech recognition and generation
* Statistical language modelling
* Hardware/software co-verification tool design and implementation
* Document analysis and recognition system implementation
* Modelling of folding using neural networks
* Computer networks and security
* Data mining and applications

2.Microelectronics

The main objective of the program is to give students the abilities of designing, analyzing, manufacturing, and testing integrated electronic systems and sensors that require a sound understanding of the physical fundamentals, an appreciation of the complexities involved in designing such systems as well as an awareness of the economic and environmental implications.

Primarily concerned areas include:

* Solid-state electronics and devices
* Semiconductor manufacturing technologies
* Design of analog, digital, and mixed-signal integrated circuits
* Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI)
* Integrated system design concepts
* Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS)
* Sensors and actuators

3.Telecommunications

The field of telecommunications will help bring to life the new communication means and services that will change peoples' lives in the near future. The new Internet will be broadband, a high speed network of glass and light that will open the door to the rich applications of tomorrow ranging from tele-medicine, e-entertainment, e-business to e-education. Another fundamental thrust of this program is digital processing of multimedia signals such as speech, image, and video as these constitute most of the messages in telecommunications systems and the Internet.

Major topics of interest include:

* Wireless communications and 3G mobile networks
* Wearable computing using computer vision based methods
* Computer-aided diagnosis of radiological images for tele-radiology applications
* Adaptive wavelet transform and applications
* Signal, speech, and image processing
* Electromagnetic theory, wave propagation and antennas

4.Mechatronics

The goal of the graduate education in Mechatronics is to integrate basic engineering disciplines into a meaningful program for educating graduates who are conversant with all of the relevant technologies needed to create modern and smart products. The future mechatronics engineer is able to work across the the boundaries of constituent disciplines (mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science) to identify and use the appropriate combination of technologies that provide the best solutions.

Major topics of interest include:

* Engineering design methods
* System dynamics and intelligent control
* Precision engineering and design
* Embedded system design
* Real-time systems design
* Mobile robotic systems
* Monitor, modelling and control of manufacturing processes
* Power electronics and electric drives
* Micro systems design and applications
* Industrial control systems
* Sensors and actuators
