On successful completion of this programme, students will have achieved the following competencies:

  • advanced scientific understanding and technological knowledge in water technology and in integrated water management
  • in-depth knowledge of new technologies for water use and reuse based on an integrated water resources management approach
  • knowledge and skills to select and apply relevant tools for collecting, interpreting and assessing (qualitative and quantitative) information from a variety of relevant sources on water technology and integrated water management
  • ability to assess the quality and relevance of studies performed by others
  • skills to take an active part in evaluation work him-/herself
  • ability to formulate integrated proposals as a contribution to the solution and prevention water related problems
  • skill to critically analyse policy plans, management proposals and measures for implementation and contribute to their set up.

In order to obtain the degree of Master of Technology for Integrated Water Management the student

  • should be enrolled for the programme in question under a diploma contract or under an exam contract to obtain a diploma
  • should have taken all the exams that the programme encompasses
  • should previously have registered for the programme with the examination board.
  • should have acquired at least 60 ECTS-credits

The programme consists of 60 ECTS-credits.
In a model academic year, the student takes between 54 and 66 ECTS-credits.

Introduction to water technology - 9 ECTS

  • Global water problems and integrated water management 1st semester
  • Integrated assessment of water and sediment quality 1st semester

Specialisation in water technology (electives) - 18 ECTS

  • Wastewater treatment technology 1st semester
  • Sludge and sediment management & treatment 1st semester
  • Ecological engineering 1st semester
  • Sustainable use of water: winning, distribution, use and reuse 1st semester
  • River morphology & hydrodynamics 1st semester
  • Water and Shipping 2nd semester
  • Integrated Water Management Case River 21 2nd semester

Integration in water technology and -management - 3 ECTS

  • Integrated modelling and design of basin management plans 1st semester

Dissertation - 30 ECTS

  • Dissertation TIWM
