Human Movement Sciences offers a multidisciplinary approach to the scientific study of human movement. During obtaining this degree you will become fascinated by the complexity of human movement and will consider it using theories from different medical, biological, mathematical and behavioural sciences. You will learn to combine and apply these approaches in a scientific research project in the second year of the Master programme. The content of this Master's degree programme is focused on acquiring an advanced theoretical understanding. With this knowledge one can make the link between science and practise.
Career prospects
A variety of opportunities in education, research, as policy maker or consultant in business or health care, developing physical activity programmes, etc.

Field of research
Human Movement Sciences research in Groningen is concentrated around 3 areas:
* Learning and performance in sports = the relationship between physical and mental aspects of learning and performance in (elite) sport
* Movement, ageing and health = the relationship between movement, lifestyle and physical and mental fitness and susceptibility to illness, in the elderly
* Motor recovery and rehabilitation = diagnostics and treatment of children and adults with motor disorders and functional disability
A couple of examples of this research are:
* Physical activity and cognition in obese children
* Talent research in young hockey players
* Influence of light therapy on sleep rhythm in patients with dementia
* Passing opportunities of soccer players during a match
