How do we find solutions to the world´s growing environmental problems? Would you like a career dealing with environmental issues in national or international businesses?

We are increassingly aware of our responsibilities in the use and management of the natural environment. Knowledge is needed to find solutions to growing environmental problems, such as pollution and depleted resources. This programme will enable you develop the knowledge and skills needed to address these important issues.

Knowledge and understanding of our biological natural resources and their sustainable use is urgently needed. In this programme, you will heighten your knowledge of economics or business administration, and learn how that knowledge can be applied to environmental issues. Environmental issues are brought to the classroom via SLU´s extensive links with natural resource-based industries. These meetings aid understanding and application of skills in economics and business administration as a tool for addressing current problems.

Future Prospects

This programme is offered in English, and is intended for students who have a bachelors degree in business administration or economics and want to further develop their knowledge with a focus on environmental and natural resource issues. After completing the programme, you will have the competence to work with environmental issues in national and international businesses and organisations, as well as in government agencies and other public sector organizations.

As an economist with a profile in environmental and natural resource issues you will have broad employment opportunities in industry, media, consultancy firms, authorities, international organizations and policy agencies. You will also be well prepared to apply for a Ph D programme.


Contents

Dependent upon your choice of major subject, either business administration or economics, you will develop understanding and insight into the use and management of natural resources in local as well as global perspectives.

You will learn to address complex problems from both an industrial as well as societal perspective, with an interest in understanding and supporting sustainable development. Within the business administration major, you will have the opportunity to study environmental management, production economics, quantitative finance, strategic management, environmental risk management and accounting, and business ethics.

As an economics major, you will develop your understanding of micro economic theory, environmental policy, demand for agricultural products and food system analysis, and sustainable development. Some of the programme courses are offered in cooperation with Uppsala University.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

Equivalent to Bachelor´s degree of 180 HEC including 90 HEC in one of the following subjects:

  • Business Administration
  • Economics

5 HEC in Mathematics, 5 HEC in Statistics.

Knowledge equivalent to English B from upper secondary school.

Required results are:

  • TOEFL internetbased score of 20 (scale 0-30) in written test and a total score of 90.
  • TOEFL paperbased score of 4.5 (scale 1-6) in written test and a total score of 575.
  • IELTS an overall mark of 6.5 and no section below 5.5
