Liverpool Hope’s MSc Marketing Management fosters critical thinking about marketing, qualitative and quantitative marketing research, along with associated business and management problems.
The course aims to enhance your marketing problem solving skills as well as providing the key specialist skills required in marketing management roles. In particular, the MSc Marketing Management aids understanding of, and equips you to act on, secondary and primary marketing research data to enhance marketing decisions.
Graduates can go on to successful careers in marketing research, marketing management, marketing consultancy and other management roles.
Future Career Opportunities
Students who are awarded the MSc Marketing Management will meet the qualification requirement for full membership of the Market Research Society** (In order to qualify for full membership however, candidates must also meet the three-year experience requirement).
Through successful completion of the MSc you will have the skills needed to succeed in many areas of marketing and social science. You will be well placed in the fast moving career market with the inter-personal and technical skills that will enable you to access key decision-making roles within a wide variety of companies and industries, from global corporations to local authorities.
Potential careers include marketing research, marketing management, marketing consultancy and strategic management roles. In addition, the course provides an excellent foundation for further research through PhD studies leading to an academic career in marketing.
The programme consists of nine taught modules (8 compulsory, 1 elective) and a dissertation (final research project). You must complete 180 credits to graduate with an MSc degree. You will be assessed for each module. Assessment methods will vary and may include academic essays, reports, presentations and research dissertation.
Modules*
* Marketing Management (15 credits): You study the roles and structure of the marketing function and the nature or relationships with other functions within various types of organizations. Through the use of appropriate management techniques to plan and control marketing activities, you will assess marketing objectives and plans at an operational level in light of the organization’s internal and external environments.
* Marketing Science (15 credits): The character of marketing changes with the wealth and complexity of information available to the marketing professional. In this module, through the use of state of the art software and cutting edge research techniques, you will learn how to deal appropriately with marketing information and conduct professional analyses to support more successful marketing decisions.
* International Marketing (15 credits): You will study how social, cultural, legal, technological and political issues influence business in the foreign markets, identify global marketing opportunities and evaluate alternative modes for entering diverse markets worldwide.
* Human Resource Management (15 credits): You will develop knowledge and understanding of how to develop HRM strategies specifically recruitment & selection, reward management, performance management and culture management.
* Managerial Strategy (15 credits): You will study the latest theories and best practice of organisational direction, mission and values, and corporate strategy.
* Global Business Ethics (15 credits): The aim of the module is to allow you to think about the range of dilemmas, problems and issues that are addressed within the field known as Business Ethics. You will consider the analytical and other tools available for addressing these issues and to use them to reflect critically on you own work environment and current experiences.
* Knowledge Management and Development (15 credits): Knowledge Management identifies and maps intellectual assets within the organization and so generates new knowledge for competitive advantage within the organization. Corporate information is made accessible, best practices are shared, and technology is used to best competitive advantage.
* Elective (15 credits): Depending on your area of interest you can choose to study from a number of optional modules, which may include Managerial Finance, Operations Management, Global and Economic Development, International Organization.
* Research Methods (15 credits): This module teaches you the latest skills in academic research, in order to prepare you for your final dissertation. You will study the formulation of research questions, the design of the research process, and investigation methods, while providing a critical reflection of your strengths and weaknesses, knowledge and understanding of research design and methods for small scale research.
* Dissertation (45 credits): Building on the other modules in the course, you will conduct a critical appraisal of the academic literature, which will be followed by primary research in your chosen specialist area. An analysis and evaluation of your qualitative and/or quantitative data will then allow you to present a further academic critique with appropriate and coherent recommendations for the business sector.
Location and Facilities
All classes are held at Liverpool Hope University’s main campus, Hope Park. The campus is situated just four miles from the city centre and offers superb academic and support facilities, including on-campus library with extended opening hours, free computer and wi-fi access, and a careers service for advice on part-time work opportunities and post-study careers.
