This programme is aimed at graduates who would like to develop their research skills and their appreciation of contemporary issues in applied psychology.
The topics covered on the programme address the application of psychological theory and research to contemporary issues. Expert guest lecturer/practitioners are invited to give masterclasses in practical aspects of applied psychology, including clinical, forensic and occupational psychology. Further lectures are also given on practical issues, such as the dissemination of psychological findings, including dealing with the media and writing for publication.
The project gives students the opportunity to apply learning from the other courses within the degree, as well as prior learning, to the planning and conducting of a substantial piece of original research in applied psychology. This should be a publishable piece of research. The applied nature of the programme ensures that links are made between theory, policy and practice, and that the influence and contribution of psychology are examined in real-world settings.
