This programme will equip you for a career in the profession of Chemistry, through training in advanced chemical research techniques (lectures, laboratory training, workshops and tutorials) and undertaking an independent research project.
The programme also provides a Bologna Second Cycle qualification for anyone wishing to proceed to a Bologna Third Cycle degree (PhD) anywhere within the EU. The breadth of experience gained in undertaking this degree is particularly valuable to prospective employers.
Aimed primarily towards EU and Overseas students who are in possession of a 3 year Bachelor Degree (Euro Bachelor) in Chemistry or Chemistry related discipline (or equivalent degree), this programme is also suitable for UK students whose first degrees contain three years of Chemistry.

Research Project B (Continuation of Research Project culminating in a dissertation)
The project will normally align with one of the major areas of research activity in the department:
* materials chemistry * biomaterials * catalysis * environmental and analytical chemistry * medicinal chemistry Other specialised areas for project study may be offered. Assessment is by axaminations, continuous assessment and research projects with oral examinations. Only candidates who complete the first three sessions of the programme at an appropriate standard will be permitted to continue to the fourth half session. This decision is taken following the oral examination at the end of the summer session.

A Bologna First-Cycle Eurobachelor Degree in Chemistry or a Chemically Related Discipline, or an equivalent qualification, at a satisfactory standard.
Candidates for whom English is not a native tongue are accepted on condition that their proficiency allows them to learn from Lectures, take part in Tutorials, and write essays and examinations in the prescribed time. They may be asked to take a compulsory test in English soon after arrival in Aberdeen, and, if necessary, attend a remedial course in the English Language Laboratory at Old Aberdeen.
