The Diploma in Health and Social Care is designed to provide you with the basic skills, knowledge and understanding of the roles undertaken by professionals within this sector. You will learn about the rights of clients and how to meet their individual needs.
You will also learn about the roles and responsibilities of care workers in a number of care services and develop the skills to work with people with a variety of needs. To help you make the connection between theory and practice you will carry out assignments and undertake work experience. You will be expected to engage in work placements and take part in visits to a range of services in the local area, through which you will be able to put into practice what you have learnt on the course.

The programme comprises of four core units and four specialist units (Total 60 credits).
In order to successfully complete the course students are required to complete a period of work experience which will be completed within care homes, childcare settings and in a range of health settings
* To successfully complete this unit, learners must complete 60 hours of work experience.
How will I be assessed?
Opal College London offers a flexible approach to assessment whilst maintaining rigorous standards.
The award of the qualification is dependent upon satisfactory completion of all course work and assignments for all units studied.
How many hours per week do I have to attend College for?
This is a full time course. Successful completion of this course will require a combination of self study and tutor directed study. Normally you will spend a minimum of 12 hours tutor directed study every week, plus 3 hours functional skills and tutorials. Students can expect to spend up to 10 hours outside of college time completing course work.
What can I do when I complete the course?
Normally students who achieve a merit profile at the end of the course and gain Functional Skills in English and Maths at level 2 or above are eligible to progress onto the next level of study. This could include the National Diploma in Health and Social Care or other level 2 or level 3 provisions. Alternatively students may seek employment within the health and social care sector.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
