Location of University of Portsmouth

Main task of a research student is independent research of the chosen topic, working closely with a Director of Studies who guides and advises throughout the period of research; at the end of the period of study, the results of the research are embodied in a thesis, which is examined at a viva voce examination when a candidate is required to defend his or her thesis; supervision is available in research areas including: politics and policy making in Europe; history; transnationalism in Europe; Europe and Africa; Social, Historical and cultural change in Europe; English Literature; international relations; gender studies; and nation and identity.

The course can be studied full-time over two years or part-time over four years.


IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

A good honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject or a master's degree in an appropriate subject. Exceptionally, equivalent professional experience and/or qualifications will be considered.

English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 7.0 or equivalent with no component less than 6.5
