The aim of the Department of Sport and Exercise Science is to provide staff, final year and postgraduate students with the opportunity to undertake high quality, internationally recognised, applied research in the sub-discipline fields of Physiology, Psychology, Biomechanics, Health and Sport Development. The Department is growing its research activity in the area of sports development. Sports development staff have expertise in the work of national governing bodies, education, comparative aspects of sport provision, talent development, adventure sports and sports business, both from a national and international perspective.

Research degree work focuses on completion of a thesis; supervision is available in research areas including: human and applied physiology; biomechanics; sports development; psychology; health; evaluating local sport projects that engage with the health/education sectors and major National Lottery facilities; sports injuries and treatments; physical activity in school children; gender issues in sport and exercise; eating disorders in athletes; concentration issues for sports performance; and psychphysiological aspects of survival.

The course can be studied full-time over two years or part-time over four years.


IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Requirements

A good honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject or a master's degree in an appropriate subject. Exceptionally, equivalent professional experience and/or qualifications will be considered.

English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 7.0 or equivalent.
