We have developed an impressively wide area of expertise in energy technology. In all our activities we successfully combine effective teaching and profound researching methods. Research is carried out in close cooperation with enterprises and other universities and research institutions. Our strong interface with enterprises is one of the key success-factors in ensuring an appreciated practical application of new knowledge and theories into the real world.

Our aim is to educate industrially orientated, world-class professionals with firm theoretical understanding and profound expertise in the areas of bio-energy technology, environmental energy technology, electrical drives technology, and electricity market and distribution.

Energy studies focuse on power plant and steam boiler engineering, pollution prevention, emission reduction, utilisation of by-products as material or energy, waste treatment, recycling and disposal; the management of electromagnetism, power electronics, electromechanical and electrothermal processes, industrial applications of real-time control systems, embedded software, digital signal processing, and on the application of these to the modeling and control of electric drives and power electronics; electricity distribution automation and power transmission, network business technology, regulation, and economy.

Teaching is based on the latest research and international development in the said focus areas.

In these areas we have excelled and gained high competence as well as competitive recognition among Europe´s top universities of technology. We are able to cater to the students´ educational needs and provide excellent research facilities.

Contents

The Master´s Degree Programme in Energy Technology leads to the degree of Master of Science in Technology (120 ECTS credits). The programme starts yearly at the end of August or beginning of September, and contains three semesters of course work (90 ECTS credits). The Master´s thesis, 30 ECTS, is conducted during the fourth semester.

DEGREE STRUCTURE:

* General Studies 21 ECTS cr:
The general studies are the same and obligatory to all students studying on the programme.
* Major Subject Studies 29-32 ECTS cr:
The major courses of the 4 majors of the programme are listed below.
* Minor Subject 20 (min.) ECTS cr:
The student is recommended to choose one of the minor subjects offered by the degree programme in Energy Technology. Alternatively to the major and minor subject combination as recommended in the table below, the student may choose any of the minor subjects offered by the degree programme in Energy Technology
* Elective Studies 17-20 ECTS cr:
To attain the full degree amount of 120 ECTS credits the student needs to take additional courses. Elective studies can include any courses taught in English at LUT if the required prerequisites are completed.

Requirements

General Ellibility

Minimum requirement: Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree or equivalent in related or closely related field or Bacherlor's degree (tradenomi) from a Finnish university of applied sciences or a Russian Spetsialist degree in the field in question. Students should have a basic knowledge of engineering thermodynamics and heat transfer and also have completed studies in mathematics and physics.

Language Requirement's

Consequently students who have not completed a Bachelor’s degree in English in an EU/EEA country or in Australia, Canada, New Zealand or in the USA must have obtained an approved English language qualification Academic TOEFL 80 iBT/550 PBT; Academic IELTS 6.0; Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) level A, B or C. University language certificates are not accepted.
