Location of University of Portsmouth

Pharmacy and Biomedical Science is one of the University's strongest areas of research; in the most recent research assessment round Portsmouth was in the top three for funding in England in the subject Allied Health Professions & Studies. Our researchers are contributing to the Institute of Biomedical and Biomolecular Sciences (IBBS) where the majority of the research was rated internationally excellent or world-leading (3* and 4*). The major strengths of our current research portfolio lie in Molecular Medicine. Medicines Research is the second major area of research carried out within the School's research laboratories.

Students initially register for the MPhil and transfer to the PhD subject to satisfactory progress; students undertake independent research in an area of pharmacy or biomedical science, working closely with academic supervisors; supervision is available in research areas such as: molecular medicine; biomaterials and drug delivery; molecular design; natural product chemistry; pharmacology; pharmacy practice; applied electrochemistry; applied environmental microbiology; and neuro-oncology.
