The Department's strategic plan encourages high quality, pioneering research in a number of specialised areas of psychology which underpin all its teaching and knowledge transfer activities.
The Department has organised its research into three Research Centres:
o Forensic Psychology
o Human Ecology, Culture and Communication
o Study of Emotion
And three further research groups:
* Animal Behaviour
* Affective and Cognitive Neuroscience
* Human Factors
The department houses specialist laboratories and facilities, hosts a weekly seminar series and visiting speaker programme, and conferences and workshops.
The main task of a research student is independent research of the chosen topic, working closely with a director of studies who guides and advises throughout the period of research; at the end of the period of study, the results of the research are embodied in a thesis, which is examined at a viva voce examination when a candidate is required to defend his or her thesis; students also follow the PgD psychological research methods; supervision is available for research areas including: forensic psychology: investigative interviewing; child and adolescent offenders; offender rehabilitation programmes; emotions studies: developmental, neuropsychological, comparative, communication and linguistics; ecological psychology; language, culture and mind; and psychophysiology.
The course can be studied full-time over two years or part-time over four years.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testA good honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject or a master's degree in an appropriate subject. Exceptionally, equivalent professional experience and/or qualifications will be considered.
English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 7.0 or equivalent.
