Location of University Rovira I Virgili

The main aim of the Master's Degree in Teaching Foreign Languages is to train professionals to teach Spanish and English as foreign languages. Students are provided with a theoretical base and the practical instruments required to organize the teaching of Spanish and English as foreign languages The content of the programme guarantees an in-depth knowledge of the language chosen and familiarity with the didactic techniques and methodologies that are most appropriate for effective teaching.

The programme contains a number of credits that are common to the two specialities (English and Spanish) as well as subjects that are specific to each one.
As well as the professional mode, the Master's Degree in Teaching Foreign Languages also has a research mode designed for those students who wish to focus on a theoretical or practical aspect of the field of foreign language teaching at doctorate level.

Career opportunities

Professional track: Spanish or English teaching in language teaching institutions in Spain or abroad; Spanish or English assistantships at foreign universities; work in sheltered classrooms (Spanish) in primary and secondary schools; cultural mediation; tourism and English/Spanish/English translation. Research track: university undergraduate teaching of Spanish and English, and university postgraduate teaching of Spanish and English as foreign languages.

Phases 2 and 3 are only opened if there are free places on the master’s degree! If you want to ensure that you have a place, we recommend that you pre-register in the first phase!

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

  • University degree in Hispanic Studies, English Studies, Teaching in Primary Education or Foreign Language and related subject areas.
  • Selection criteria:
    • Academic performance: candidate’s academic transcript apraised qualitatively and quantitatively.
    • Other training: other courses, seminars or activities that are related to the content of the master’s degree.
    • Professional experience: experience in the teaching of foreign languages will be taken into account (Spanish, English).
    • Competence in English (for English as a Foreign Language); competence in Spanish (for Spanish as a Foreign Language)

Accreditation

Official recognition as a Master’s degree (Máster Universitario) by the Spanish Ministry of Education (Ministerio de Educación).

Funding details

The Rovira i Virgili University offers grants aimed at new international students who want to study a university master’s degree. The grants consist of the tuition fee (all taxes included) and a study bursary.

This master will have at least one student awarded with a grant.
