Imperial College Business School has launched a new MSc Innovation and Entrepreneurship - a 12-month full-time programme designed to prepare recent graduates for managing in today's dynamic and uncertain environment.
The new programme draws upon the global excellence of Imperial College in the fields of innovation, management and entrepreneurship, and will be taught primarily by Business School faculty, ranked 4th in the world for entrepreneurship*, in conjunction with expert guest speakers from industry.
It builds directly on the work of the Business School's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Group, with its outstanding reputation for research and close links with business, and offers exciting new opportunities to students interested in working for innovation-led organisations or ventures.

CORE COURSES:
THE MANAGEMENT CORE (Autumn: October – December):
Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management
This course assesses roles and behaviour of the people who work in a business, providing an understanding of the complexity of organisations and introducing key issues in contemporary HR management, drawing on theory and research evidence.
Strategic Management
Strategy is about creating, maintaining, and reinforcing organisational purpose, direction and accomplishment. The course examines theories and evidence about strategic management. Students will apply this knowledge to live case studies of their choosing, demonstrating familiarity with, and competence in, the use of strategy tools and techniques.
International Marketing
The course provides an introduction to key concepts and evidence of effective marketing, so that businesses serve customers better. It explores the consumption of new products and services and analyses adoption and diffusion processes.
Business Economics
Economics is a theory of decision, how to choose from a range of possible alternatives. This course focuses on decision-making within the firm and its market environment. It will cover the main economic models and their utilisation.
Accounting and Corporate Reporting Analysis
This course provides a grounding in financial analysis, both accounting and risk assessment, suitable for those wishing to specialise in innovation and entrepreneurship.
THE INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP CORE (Spring: January – March):
Entrepreneurship
This course introduces students to the fast-moving business of global entrepreneurship, combining a practical hands-on approach with an underpinning of theory and academic research. The aim of the course is to enable students to launch, manage or invest in successful new ventures on a global level, or incorporate entrepreneurial thinking into the management of existing organisations. Examples will be taken from a wide range of businesses.
Innovation Management
This course aims to equip students with an understanding of the main issues in innovation strategy, an awareness of the key features of success, an appreciation of the relevant skills needed to manage innovation at both strategic and operational levels, and evidence of the success of different approaches.
Business Models and Intellectual Property
Some business successes stem from application of new technologies, but others from new ways in which to package and charge for services that existing technologies can deliver. The course teaches students how to construct business models and explore new models. IP is important in any business model so the course will also explores the forms of IP available to innovators and entrepreneurs, examining how to obtain and enforce different forms of IP, in order to capture the maximum value, either now or in the future.
Design, Products and Services
This course introduces students to the changing skills, technologies and methods of design and new product/service development, and how these affect the opportunities to manage innovation in products, services and solutions.
Venture Growth and Finance
This course deals with the following questions. What are the determinants of growth intent among entrepreneurs? How do growth-oriented ventures secure the financial resources needed to fuel their growth ambitions, and what is the role of corporate and independent venture capital in this? How do ventures develop capabilities to outperform their competitions? How do ventures internationalise? These questions are aimed at understanding the success factors of high growth ventures before and after their initial public offering (IPO).
Project Management
Success in both entrepreneurship and innovation depends on the successful execution at project level. This course will focus on the processes of project selection; assessing and managing project teams; stage gate processes and project evaluation.
BUSINESS APPLICATIONS (Summer: April – September):
Business Simulation
Students will participate in a week long business simulation to draw together and test their core business skills. Business Plan CompetitionStudents are asked to build on their core courses to create a Business Plan for a novel idea. Working in groups, students will be expected to present their plan under competition conditions, thereby confirming their ability to assess and communicate the value of new ideas.
Consulting Project
One or more companies will be invited to present the students with a real problem to address and feed back to the company. Students are typically given some time to respond, in groups, to the challenge. The objective is to make them think about an issue in a live context and to recognise the challenges of applying ideas from the classroom to the real world.
Individual Essay
Students will be expected to write a long essay over the latter part of the summer. This will provide them with the opportunity to examine an issue of their choosing in greater depth.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

ACADEMIC ABILITY:
The MSc Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Imperial College Business School is an intensive and demanding programme, and we are looking for students with an excellent undergraduate degree. If you have studied in the UK, we require at least an Upper Second Class honours degree; if you have studied elsewhere, please consult our international entry requirements.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
This programme is designed for new or recent graduates with no more than two years' full-time work experience.
