The EMCL is a 24 months full-time interdisciplinary and transnational university program at Masters level providing integrated training in Neurolinguistics, Psycholinguistics and Clinical Linguistics.

The transnational consortium comprises four universities:
* Groningen (NL),
* Joensuu (FI),
* Potsdam (DE).
The programme consists of three teaching terms and a fourth term to finish the thesi. Mobility requires that terms are spent at least two universities.
The total number of credits required for completing the programme is 120 ECTS. All courses are taught in English. Students obtain a joint consortium degree. The programme recruits students worldwide.
Propedeutics
In the first month, propedeutic courses are held in Potsdam to overcome differences in academic knowledge at a very early stage of the program. Introductions are offered into Clinical Linguistics, Theoretical Linguistics and Methodology/Statistics.
Teaching terms
Term one can be spent in either Groningen or Joensuu. Groningen has a focus on Clinical Aphasiology, Developmental Language Disorders and Developmental Dyslexia. Classes will be on Neurological rehabilitation, Methods/Statistics, Language Development, Language Processing, Language Assessment and Topics in Neurolinguistics. Another focus is on Scientific Writing. Mobility in the third term takes the students to Groningen or Joensuu. Classes will be similar to the first term but on an advanced level. A new focus is on Brain imaging and Language.
Thesis
The fourth term is spent on thesis work at the institution of the first supervisor.
The mobility scheme requires that students attend at least at two of the three participating institutions of the consortium.
Cultural and language courses
Apart from the scientific content of the program, cultural and language courses are an obligatory part in each teaching semester. Students are invited to learn the language of their host institution, get an idea of the cultural diversity in Europe and acquire skills in intercultural competence.
