The aim of this programme is to give graduates in subjects other than computing, with an interest and some experience in computing, a firm grounding in the knowledge, skills and understanding of computing and software development to enable them to operate effectively in the application of computing to industry, commerce and research.


Contents

The programme consists of six taught modules over two semesters (September-April), covering Internet and Computer Systems, Software Engineering, Software Development and Advanced Programming using C++, Graphical User Interfaces, Human Computer Interaction and Database Systems. Project (May-September for MSc, May-June for Diploma): A research-oriented software development project supervised by a member of staff, culminating in a dissertation.

Methods of Assessment:

The taught modules are assessed by continuous assessment plus end of semester examinations in December and March/April. The project is assessed by dissertation.

Requirements

You should have, or expect to have, an honours degree at 2.2 level or above, or equivalent qualifications, in a subject other than computing.

English Language Requirement: IELTS of 6.0 (or equivalent), if your first language is not English.

All students initially enrol for Diploma and can transfer to MSc if an appropriate standard is reached in the exams.
