Do you have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or similar? Are you looking for a professional career? Do you want to become more attractive in the labour market? Do you think that a two-year master is too long? Then this programme is for you!
The Master's Programme (One Year) in Computer and Systems Sciences is a one-year postgraduate programme for those who already have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or similar. The programme suits those who wish to broaden and deepen their skills and knowledge as a preparation for a successful professional career. It is also suitable if you have studied at another university and want to be closer to the labour market in the Stockholm region. In addition to being on site in Stockholm, you can meet with companies either on your own or at trade shows such as Systemvetardagen, where some thirty IT companies come to DSV to make contacts.
Compared with the Bachelor's level, you get a deeper knowledge on information technology, its role in business and society, and how it interacts with humans. You will also get glimpses of emerging trends in the field and how future information technology could be used. The programme gives you both a thorough knowledge and practical skills in the area or areas (course blocks) you select. The one-year programme is focused on advanced courses and includes a short thesis.
Career
The programme is suitable for students aiming for a professional career, for example as IT architects, business architects, project managers, database architects, systems analysts, or application developers. Depending on the block of courses chosen, the student will be prepared for work in the fields business intelligence, usability engineer, web designer, interface designer, or become an expert on security, risk managment or digital forensics.
Depending on the block you choose courses from, the programme prepares you for work in business intelligence, usability engineer, web designer, interface designer, or become an expert on security, risk or digital forensics. For further career options, read more in the different block descriptions. If you're more interested in an academic or other research career, we recommend our two-year master's programmes.
The programme is divided into four periods. During the first period, you choose two elective courses from the Core Competence Pool. For the three subsequent periods, you select courses from one or more of the course blocks. During the two periods in the spring, you do your thesis alongside more courses out of the blocks. Currently, there are six course blocks:
* IT Management
* Information Systems Architecture and Design
* Business Intelligence
* Interactive Design
* Global Delivery and Outsourcing
* Information Security
You choose courses from one or more course blocks to fit your interests. A few courses are not included in any block and could be chosen separately. It is also possible to freely choose the courses you want to study. Here - masterpoolvt11 - is a list of courses you can choose from. Finally, you may also take a few courses from the undergraduate level if you miss something special in your Bachelor's degree.
Core Competence Pool
In period 1, you choose two courses from the core course list, i.e. two of the following courses (note that the exact set of courses might differ slightly from this list):
* Enterprise Computing and Erp (enterprise resource planning) System (IS1)
* Data Mining in Computer and Systems Sciences (DAMI)
* Principles of Computer Security (SEC:I)
* Advanced Requirements Engineering of IT-systems (REQ)
* Introduction to Testing of IT-systems (INTE) - the course is given in swedish
At the end of period 1, you choose the courses you want to take for the rest of the programme from the six course blocks. You can mix courses from multiple course blocks if you want. You choose two courses in period 2 (autumn) and one course each in periods 3 and 4 (spring) when you also write your thesis.
Additional Courses
Beesides the courses described in the proposed course blocks, there are a few courses to choose from, such as
* Dynamic programming (DYPL)
