This one-year taught MSc course has been developed to train participants in the design and production of electronic circuits. The extensive facilities of the School of Engineering, Physics and Mathematics are available to support the course.
Aims of the Programme:
- To provide the basic theoretical and practical training aspects of current industrial practice in the electronics industry
- To use modern computer aided design facilities for the design and simulation of analogue and digital circuits and to consider EMC characteristics
- To include all aspects of new components, materials and devices including surface mount technology and microelectronic developments
- To develop an awareness of company structure and management in the electronics industry and to develop personal communicable skills
- To obtain an awareness of modern manufacturing practices in the electronics industry through external lecturers, industrial visits, attendance at trade fairs and industrial placements for the project
The programme contains five modules, which will be completed in the first two semesters.
- Electronic Manufacture
- Electronic Product Design
- Manufacturing Systems Organisation
- Microelectronic Fabrication
- Integrated Laboratory: Design Practice
Students Project The project can be undertaken in industry or be industrially-related and completed in the University. The project will be 10 weeks for the Diploma or 20 weeks for the MSc.
Methods of Assessment:
The assessment for both the Diploma and the MSc will be through a series of assignments, laboratory reports, formal examinations and a thesis.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

The broad objective of the programme has confirmed that applicants from a wide background can succeed. An honours degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Applied Physics or Computer Science is the basic academic requirement, but consideration will be given to technical qualifications supported by relevant industrial experience.
English Language Requirement: IELTS of 6.0 (or equivalent), if your first language is not English.
