Our MSc in Finance focuses on the role of modern business organisations, financial institutions and markets in the global economy. The programme also introduces students to state-of-the-art techniques and thinking regarding research methodology and the modern statistical techniques employed to investigate firm values and asset prices on inter-temporal and cross-sectional bases.
Aims of the Programme:
This degree programme is designed to provide you with an understanding of the operation of modern business organisations, the role of financial institutions and the capital markets in the global economy. You will be encouraged to think critically about the ways in which modern businesses organisations interact with the financial markets, and you will develop an understanding of the knowledge creation process.
An additional aim for our overseas students is to provide them with educational and cultural experiences which are unique to the UK.
Career Prospects:
The programme is intended for students wishing to embark on a career in the financial sector. It is particularly suited for students wishing to pursue a career in banking, fund management, investment analysis, treasury management and academic finance (via doctoral study).
The School of Accounting and Finance has excellent employment records for its students (and an impressive Alumni), and this new Masters-level programme is intended to continue this pattern of success and enable students to embark on fulfilling and rewarding careers. In this regard, the structure of the degree, with an emphasis on developing both technical and generic (soft) skills, in the context of a fast-changing business environment, will stand students in good stead.
This programme runs for 12 months from September to August, and comprises five taught modules:

- Introductory Management Accounting

- Strategy and Marketing
Semester 1 modules are examined in December while modules taught in semester 2 are examined in the end of April/early May. At this point, students will be directed, by their supervisor, to begin the dissertation phase of the degree (although they will be encouraged to begin thinking about their research topics in Semester 2).
The dissertation should take students around four months to complete with final drafts being submitted in late August/early September.
